The Joseph Art Project

Workshop-Seminar
Language: English

Categories: Children & Youths, Training
Length: 5 days
For: Youth

Overview

While learning and practicing visual art, the participants will be exposed to the three main messages of the Joseph Art Project: 1. You are loved - Joseph grew up surrounded by the love of his father and God has declared his love for each one of us; 2. Be faithful - Joseph had integrity and everything he did reflected his identity as a believer. Because of this, God used him to save his relatives as well as millions of lives; 3. God is with you regardless of the hardships you go through.

Content of the Course

  • Drawing lessons – in a series of lessons and activities young people are introduced to the basic principles of drawing, including shape, volume, proportions, perspective and more. Participants have the opportunity to experiment with several techniques: pencils, watercolors, acrylic paints, collage and others. The use of found materials and their recycling into art is also encouraged.
  • Teaching – in three sessions, a member of the Kahawa Media team shares Biblical messages based on Joseph's life, one of the main goals being to draw a parallel between the life of this Bible hero and the young people attending the seminar. Another major part of the message is the analogy between Joseph and the life and mission of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Discussions – in small groups the young people discuss the lessons and present their conclusions to the whole audience.
  • Paintings – The main project on which the participants work during the workshop is 7 paintings illustrating different events from the life of Joseph of Genesis. The compositions of the paintings are ready and the task of the children is to magnify the provided drawing and to use their creative talent for coloring it in the large format.
  • Exhibition - The finished paintings are suitable for exhibition, permanent show in school or other environments, as well as for outdoor events where young people present their own work and have the opportunity to share biblical history and good news with viewers.
  • Watching the TV series Wewe Nami.

Who is this it for?

The target group is young people from 10 to 19 years of age. Younger children or older people are also welcome, but their presence must be specified and arranged, and for young children our team needs additional help provided by the hosts.

Participants

The optimal number for participants in the main age group is between 20 and 40.
In a school environment, when not all children will be interested in participating in art activities, then a much larger group of children can participate in the teachings, discussions and the movie nights.

Duration

5 days is the optimal period for Joseph Art Project, during which time participants are engaged for 6 hours per day including two breaks of 30 minutes. The workshop can also be adapted for children in boarding school, as daily activities are at a convenient time and last 2-3 hours a day for two weeks.

Location

The location should be safe and suitable for children. The hall should be bright. An exterior space for work and games is an advantage. Participants will need chairs and worktables.
