Equipping Church Leaders

Strong local leaders in churches throughout East Africa can have a major influence on their societies. By Giving these leaders access to vital tools and training, we are preparing them to succeed in times of crisis. Village pastors want to be equipped. They want to lead. They want to be Godly leaders, mentors, and role models in their communities. We have committed ourselves to helping them fulfill these dreams.

In partnership with Kahawa Media, pastors across East Africa are using the Shepherd’s Staff, are teaching ISOM curriculum, catching the vision of reaching young people, and sending missionaries around the world.

People who are students one year become enthusiastic teachers the next. God has provided us with these tools, and we are privileged to help deploy them. With God’s help, the Church of East Africa will gain strength and maturity, will rise to the challenges that we face, and will be a true testimony of the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why Media?

We use media because it works

Media is accessible to normal people. Creating comic books and music videos is not at the top of the list of activities that people normally associate with missionaries. Somehow, there is an idea that cartoons and music videos are for ‘normal’ life, and that missionaries should be preaching, teaching, writing sermon notes, and doing other ‘churchy’ things. But that idea misses the fact that most people are only in church for a few hours a week, and we’ve been called to reach normal people and take Christ with us into our every-day lives.

Media is extensive. Media is easy to share and is able to go places that we cannot. Good music videos get watched and shared from phone to phone and friend to friend. Cartoons get watched by kids in Christian homes and non-Christian homes, by young and old. Media gets consumed in the living room, where people are already comfortable and are open to new ideas. A well-preached sermon may have a tremendous impact on the handful of people in a congregation, but a recording of that sermon can impact thousands. Whether through the written word, audio recordings, or motion pictures, media allows us to extend the reach of the good news we carry.

Media bypasses barriers. Media is able to bypass the objections that people have in their heads and go straight to the deeper truths of the heart. We use media because it works. Every Christian can show a friend a video, play a movie, and read a kid’s story. Through media, we are equipping the body of Christ to be effective in sharing the hope that they have, transforming communities one heart at a time.
